natural selection is random

Science does in fact have an extremely well-supported scientific explanation of complex design in nature, namely Darwinian natural selection. Natural selection is a random process. Richard Dawkins’ The Blind Watchmaker is one of many books that spells out the scientific explanation in detail. Darwinian evolution by natural selection gave rise to all life on earth, including the human species. Without foresight, without consciousness, without purpose. And without any need for assistance from a deity or the supernatural, contrary to the claims of so-called intelligent design.

Natural selection gave rise to the vast complexity and variety of organisms in nature. Richard Dawkins refers to the process of natural selection as the ‘blind watchmaker” because cumulative mutations over billions of years lead to vastly complex organisms, creating the illusion of design, without nature seeing, hearing, or otherwise “knowing” what’s going on.

This applies to humans and especially the human brain. The process seems magical, but it isn’t. Darwinian evolution created humans. Advances in knowledge about human biology are replacing notions of a separation of mind and brain.
