Chord Symbols: Nashville Numbering

Below is a chart of the chord symbols used in our "modified" Nashvile Numbering (Table 41). Also, please do use the following additional chord symbol conventions, which apply when referencing a specific key, such as the key of C Major/A minor (and in some case, in the Nashville Number System too):

  • Capitalize the letter of the root chord (“A” for A major, instead of “a”)
  • Use "maj" or a capital “M” for a chord with a major seventh interval, as, Amaj7 or Amaj7 or AM7 or AM7 for the chord "A major seventh"
  • Use a lower case “m” for a chord based on a minor triad, as Am7 or Am7 (A minor seventh)
